The QC/Engineering intern is responsible for analyzing precious metal samples of platinum, palladium, silver and gold for quality and purity. This was completed via etching and examination under a microscope. Additionally, the intern is tasked with maintaining tool and instrument calibration for several departments; gained comprehensive understanding of production processes and manufacturing procedures. The intern was also tasked with document control and archiving.
As an intern, I gained a comprehensive overview of the entire manufacturing process encompassing everything from receiving incoming shipments to refining, casting, testing and analysis, and finally preparing for outgoing shipments.
Conducted grain analysis of acid etched gold, silver, platinum, and palladium samples.
The photograph above, taken through a microscope, is used to count the number of metallic grains per unit area in this sample.
I was responsible for maintaining the calibration of tools and instruments across several departments. This included in-house calibration of calipers and micrometers, as well as coordinating the external calibration of scales and thermometers.
