Aug 2022 - Present
As a member of the Northeastern Baja Motorsports Team, I have been involved in designing, building, and maintaining a rugged off-road vehicle to compete in national Baja SAE competitions. These events challenge students to create a single-seat, all-terrain recreational vehicle capable of withstanding extreme conditions, simulating real-world engineering and teamwork scenarios.
General Maintenance and Repairs
Performed routine vehicle maintenance, including removing and reinstalling wheels, brake calipers, and suspension components.
Assisted with vehicle repairs during competitions to ensure optimal performance under race conditions.
Suspension Subteam
Utilized CAD software to assist in designing suspension components for the vehicle.
Collaborated on the assembly process to integrate new suspension designs into the car.
Machining Work
Operated a lathe and milling machine to fabricate precision parts for the vehicle’s suspension and drivetrain systems.
Assisted with custom machining tasks to adapt components for specific design challenges.
Gained hands-on experience in using advanced shop tools to produce durable and reliable components.
Electrical Subteam
Worked on a vehicle diagnostics system using strain gauges strategically placed around the car.
Developed the system to measure and analyze forces experienced by the vehicle during races, providing data to optimize performance and durability.
The Baja SAE competition emphasizes the design and fabrication of a rugged off-road vehicle while encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and technical innovation. My involvement has provided hands-on experience in:
Mechanical Design and Assembly: Working on critical systems such as suspension and braking.
Electrical System Development: Creating diagnostics tools for real-time vehicle data analysis.
Team Collaboration: Coordinating with subteams to integrate mechanical and electrical components into a cohesive design.
Participating in the Baja Motorsports Team has honed my skills in mechanical design, machining, and electronics while fostering a deeper understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration. This experience has taught me the importance of adapting to real-world challenges and leveraging engineering principles to solve complex problems.
