During my co-op at Amazon Robotics, I worked on advanced autonomous systems and safety technologies that are central to Amazon’s fulfillment operations. My contributions focused on Hercules and Proteus Drive Units, wearable safety vests, and other safety-critical systems. These projects involved cutting-edge technology aimed at optimizing the interface between autonomous robots and human operators.
Designed and developed custom PCBs for internal testing, fault insertion, and system diagnostics.
Optimized PCB layouts for high-speed data transfer, power management, and signal integrity, ensuring robust performance under operational stress.
A few of my designs were successfully integrated into production systems.
Played a key role in the optimization of Hercules, an autonomous robot that transports pods weighing up to 1,000 pounds, and Proteus, Amazon’s first fully autonomous drive unit designed to safely navigate and operate alongside human workers.
My work included validating sensor integrations, troubleshooting hardware systems, and optimizing drive units for safe and efficient operation in dynamic environments.
Conducted extensive Design Verification Tests (DVT) on voltage rails, clock signals, and sensor outputs for several AR platforms
Leveraged advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and thermal imaging to identify and resolve complex hardware issues, improving overall system reliability.
Contributed to the improvement of wearable safety vests, which enable robots to detect human locations beyond their sensor range.
Conducted RF testing and validation on safety vest PCBs to ensure reliable communication and performance.
Performed rework on PCBs, addressing design updates and resolving hardware issues.
Assisted with platform-level tests, including validating system performance with significantly longer cables to assess signal integrity and reliability.
This role provided invaluable experience working with state-of-the-art robotics and safety systems in a real-world environment. It strengthened my expertise in hardware design, sensor integration, and autonomous systems optimization. I gained a deeper appreciation for the complexity of human-robot collaboration and the challenges of creating scalable and efficient robotics solutions in high-demand environments.
